Prolific NWU striker Thabo “Scara” Mnyamane has signed a three year deal with PSL outfit Amatuks.
According to an agreement reached between the two parties on the 28th of August, Mnyamane will be loaned to the NWU Soccer Institute for the remainder of year to allow him to finish his studies.
Asked how he felt about joining a PSL team, Mnyamane, a third year Sports Science student at NWU Mafikeng hailing from Sebokeng in Vanderbilpark said: “It shows that God is fruitful to those who work hard. It’s a good feeling for any individual to be signed by a professional team.”
Mnyamane believes that team work is important and that no one can make it without the support of his team.
“I also want to thank the Soccer Institute and Varsity Sports Football for the exposure they have provided” added Mnyamane.
NWU Soccer Institute Manager Richard Bokveldt said there was a lot of interest in Mnyamane by PSL teams but they chose Amatuks.
“We chose University of Pretoria because we share the same vision. We also offer the same academic programme if Scara wishes to further his studies. The environment is also similar,”said Bokveldt.
Mnyamane has been awarded the man of the match prize three times in the nnaugural Varsity Football tournament. So far he is the leading goal-scorer in the tournament with seven goals. He is the first player from Varsity Football to join a PSL team.
To add to his achievements in the tournament, Mnyamane was selected by one of the Varsity Football sponsors First National Bank (FNB) to be their face.
This move makes him the sixth player from the Soccer Institute to join PSL team and the second in 2013.
