Katlego Kgetjepe is TUT’s talisman. The 23-year-old is a talented footballer, hungry to earn a Premier Soccer League contract.
Kgetjepe opened his goal-scoring account in TUT’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over defensive-minded Wits in the opening game. Kgetjepe, who wears jersey number 10, is one of the players to look out for this season. He is quick, lethal and poses a threat in front of goal.
TUT have unearthed a gem in the lanky forward and he is hungry for success. His coach Bushy Moloi says he will take the competition by storm. The skillful footballer is ready to step up and be counted in pursuit of earning a professional contract and inspiring his team to their first title.
“I won’t do it by myself, but with the help of my team mates I will shine this season,” said Kgetjepe. “The platform is here and the stage is set. I have brought my golden boots to score goals.”
Ndumiso Mabena of Platinum Stars also wears jersey number 10. Mabena is a gifted goal-scorer in the Premiership and Kgetjepe would like to follow in his footsteps. Kgetjepe has a poster of the footballer in his room as a source of motivation.
“Mabena inspires me,” Kgetjepe added. “He is not an easy player to mark and I play similar football to him. If we do well, we will be spotted by the scouts who often come to watch our matches. I always give 100% on the pitch and I’m not one to disappoint.”
Kgetjepe, who is currently in his third year of a degree in Human Resource Management, is determined not to put a foot wrong.
“He is our magician.,” said TUT coach Bushy Moloi. “This boy is such a special player. He is definitely our key player. Katlego is very intelligent, but he needs to relax in front of goal. The other teams must be careful, because this boy will finish them. On his day he can score three or four goals in one game.”
The star striker is nicknamed Costa, after a Spanish footballer who plays for Chelsea in the English Premiership. He was given this name because of his aggression – he gets stuck in and always tussles for the ball. He’s not afraid to be cautioned by the match officials either and is constantly looking for ways to get past defenders to score goals.
“I want to score goals all the time, even though I get frustrated when things don’t go my way,” said Kgetjepe. “But I’m a poacher and always look for ways to score goals.”
Love him or hate him, Costa is here to leave a lasting mark.
