Maties bagged their third win in this year’s Varsity Netball when they comprehensively beat Cape rivals UCT 82-21 in Pretoria on Monday.
The Stellenbosch side are a far superior side to UCT and it showed on the scoreboard with Maties winning each quarter with ease.
Maties were in full control from the beginning of the game and were in a commanding position by the end of first quarter with the score at 20-6.
A powerplay was then called for in the second quarter and the Stellenbosch side took full advantage to increase their lead. UCT also managed to get a goal in that period, but Maties were already far in front with score at 31-9.
There was no let up by the Maties after the powerplay as they scored another 12 points to just the five from UCT to lead 43-14 at half-time.
UCT struggled on a number occasions to find a way past the Maties’ defence, but were left frustrated by a clinical outfit.
Maties added another 16 points in that third quarter to take a commanding 59-18 lead with still another 15 minutes to play. They also bagged a bonus point in the process for reaching the 50 point mark.
Another powerplay was called for in the fourth quarter and Maties were the only team to take advantage with another three goals to lead 75-20.
Maties went on to add another seven points before the end of the game to just the one from UCT.
