Maties did just enough to secure a tense 47-46 victory over a valiant UJ side in their Varsity Netball clash in Port Elizabeth.
The Stellenbosch side bounced back well from their defeat to NMMU on Sunday to see off the challenge of a determined UJ outfit who were also looking for their second victory.
The match was tight from the outset, with Maties building up a slender 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The momentum swung either way as both teams enjoyed periods of dominance, and they went into the half-time break tied up at 23-23.
UJ managed to edge ahead, and took a one-point lead into the final quarter, but Maties kept their focus well and overhauled them to claim a vital victory.
