Maties were forced to come from a goal behind to secure a 3-1 win over old rivals UCT in their Varsity Hockey clash in Johannesburg.
Ikeys took a shock lead early on when Jessica Pollock got on the scoreboard, but Maties hit back with a goal of their own through Quinita Bobbs to level things up in the second chukka.
The Stellenbosch team dominated possession, and although the UCT defenders worked hard it was always going to be hard to contain the hard-working Maties forwards.
With the game on the line, Maties showed their class in the closing stages as a double from Farah Fredericks sealed a hard-fought 3-1 victory which proved that UCT cannot be taken lightly.
