NMMU are positive they will steal the log leaders NWU-Pukke’s shine when they meet in Potchefstroom on Monday.
The Madibaz are just four points below the unbeaten NWU who are on 20 points after for matches.
The Port Elizabeth based team’s coach Lana Krige believes the quality in her players is bottomless.
She said: “We are excited for this match, the players have stepped up their game. They have been playing better and better in every game. We cannot single out a player, it’s a collective effort of the 12 players. We finished sixth in the University Sport South Africa, its an achievement where we are on the log right now. ”
Madibaz suffered their first loss last week to the University of Pretoria, going down 44-45 in a tense match.
Krige said that the confidence levels in her team are high, which wil be crucial against the well-drilled Pukke outfit.
“There has been a big change in the team and the girls have had to adjust to attending two training sessions a day. We have a bit of experience in players like Nontle Gwavu, Zanele Vimbela and the first year Karen Wilmse.
“But we have a few injuries right now, we hope they will be fit and ready for the match on Monday.”
Though Krige is upbeat about this match, he admits it will not be a walk in the park.
The Madibaz coach knows that playing in Potvhefstroom will be a big challenge, but she believes her team has what it takes to cause an upset.
“It is going to be a tough match. Pukke have strong players. They have tall defenders and their last line of attack, in Jeanie Steyn is a solid shooter. They play safe netball,” she said.
