With two away wins from their first two Varsity Football games, the NMMU Madibaz are looking forward to more success on the road.
The Eastern Cape team followed up their opening 2-0 victory over UWc in Bellville with a 4-0 of UCT in Cape Town on Monday, and have their sights set on making it three in a row when they face UP-Tuks in Tshwane next week.
Coach Lukhanya Wasa was very happy with his team’s performance against UCT, which saw them move up to second place on the Varsity Football standings behind pace-setters NWU.
“Our preparations and planning was perfect for UCT, we were in control of the game, from the first whistle until the final whistle, we simply gave them what we call football lessons”, said Wasa.
The Madibaz were determined to maintain their momentum from their first match, and they did it in style with striker Cloudius Sagandira picking up a hat-trick in what was ultimately a comfortable victory.
Manager Mark Tommy said that the back-to-back victories away from home have filled the team with confidence as they look ahead to their next challenge against Tuks who beat Wits 2-0 on Monday.
“Collecting maximum points on road in this competition is very important and motivates the team ahead of the next two away matches against Tukkies on 5 August and NWU on 12 August. Cloudius Sagandira led the attack and capped a sterling performance with three goals on the night,” he said.
Expectations are high, as are the levels of support, with the fans in Port Elizabeth looking forward to the next match against Tuks, although they are even more excited about the first home game on the 19 August.
