The Women’s long distance events in Johannesburg on Monday night saw impressively strong finishes from both eventual winners.
In the Women’s 800m Danel Prinsloo from Kovsies added to her 1500m title last week in Stellenbosch with a personal best time. Prinsloo saw off the challenge of UP-Tuks’ 800m specialist Anushca Nice who started well but fell away in the last 200m.
In the Women’s 3000m favourite Rosalyn Laurens set the pace, followed by TUT’s Portia Ngwenya and Zandile Hadebe from UJ. Ngwenya fell away, but Hadebe stayed with Laurens as the two separated themselves from the rest of the field. However, Laurens was simply too strong and pulled away in the final stages to take a comfortable win in the end.
