The University of the Free State are determined to return to Bloemfontein with a much better showing at the 2016 Varsity Beach Volleyball tournament that will be held at the University of the Western Cape’s Sports Stadium on 4-5 May.
Moleboheng Matsiliso, a fourth year BSc Agriculture in Food Science and Microbiology, is adamant that the effort they have put in will allow them to reap the rewards and is looking forward to participating in her first tournament.
“I’m very excited to go to Cape Town and represent my university. We have put in a lot of hard work to be competitive. We have worked on our communication and our technique and I believe we will be ready come our first match,” said Matsiliso.
Matsiliso’s teammate, Imke Stehn, echoes her sentiments and admits that last year was not their best year but they have targeted specific universities at this year’s tournament.
“It would appear that most of the teams are the same as last year. Obviously UWC and Tuks will be really tough. We’ve identified a few teams that we should be able to beat including UCT. We felt that we could have beaten them last year but did not play our best game. Hopefully we have learnt from our mistakes in 2015,” said the third year BSc Agriculture student.
Kovsies will meet tournament favourites UWC and Tuks as well as UCT in Round One (4 May) and will face UL and VUT in Round Two (5 May).
All matches will be televised live on SuperSport Select and SuperSport 5. All fixtures can be viewed here: http://www.old.varsitysportssa.com/fixtures/beachvolleyball-fixtures-results/
