Kovsies coach Godfrey Tenoff was full of praise for his players after they booked their first Varsity Football semifinal.
Having finished fifth in the inaugural season last year the Free State side were in danger of missing out on the play-offs again, but a gutsy draw with the unbeaten NWU in Bloemfontein was enough to see them through.
“We went into the match wanting to win even though we respected our opponents. We knew we would require a disciplined and dedicated performance to win,” said Tenoff.
Kovsies will travel to Johannesburg next week for their semifinal against table-toppers UJ, and Tenoff said that their top four spot was a credit to the dedication of his squad who make it easy for him to coach.
“I must say the players have put up their hands to be counted for this team.
“I definitely feel we have improved in terms of the players’ attitudes and fulfilling their individual roles. We defended so well,” he said.
Tenoff added that the players were highly motivated to achieve their goal and do themselves proud.
“In training we reminded ourselves more of our own visions and goals,” said Tenoff.
