UFS Kovsies coach Godfrey Tenoff wants his team to entertain the fans by creating as many opportunities as possible in their Varsity Football campaign.
Tenoff is excited about the talent at his disposal, and has urged his side to use their natural pace to take the game to the opposition from the first whistle.
“I have got some great players. I think the Free State is a mine that nobody has bothered to dig into, we have got some really great players.
“What I like about the Free State is most of the players are really fast with great physical attributes,” he told varsitysportssa.com.
Tenoff played in America as a professional for ten years before coming back to South Africa and was appointed as head coach at Kovsies at the end of 2011.
As someone with experience at the highest level he is confident that his team has what it takes to make an impact in Varsity Football, and he is adamant that they will not sit back and wait for any team to run at them.
“We are not going to try and be too pretty, we definitely want to be the team that generates more chances than the opposition. We want to make it entertaining for the fans.
“We are working on a style that will generate a lot of opportunities, I don’t know how vulnerable we will be to other teams but we are working on that as well.
“We won’t play a waiting style, we won’t be patient all the time, we want it to be go, go, go – we want it to be action-packed.
“I am expecting my players to go out and play with freedom and excitement, they have to go out there and expect to win the game,” he explained.
Tenoff cast his net far as he assembled his squad, scouring the Kovsies internal league for talent, and he is confident that after working together for two months they are ready to take on the top university sides in the country.
“We have been together now for about two months, most of the players have other clubs that they play for so we had to wait for them to come in.
“We also did a selection from our campus league, we found four or five players who will really help the team so we have got a good squad,” he said.
