Kovsies continued their unbeaten Varsity Netball run when they handed UJ a 69-37 defeat in Bloemfontein on Monday.
The defending champions top the standings and it was clear why as they put on a clinical display against a spirited UJ outfit at the Callie Human Hall.
The opening exchanges were very tense, with the teams matching each other goal for goal and neither side able to establish dominance.
UJ Goal Attack Kendra Szeles went down with a nasty knee injury after five minutes, and Kvosies took advantage by building up a slight lead.
At the first break Kovsies were ahead 16-11, despite some determined efforts from UJ who were working hard to limit the home team’s attacking threats.
The home side came out firing in the second period and opened the gap further much to the delight of the vocal crowd at the Callie Human Hall.
At half-time Kovsies had stretched that lead to 31-18, which meant that they could afford to focus their efforts on earning the bonus point in the second half.
The hosts rang the changes at half-time as they looked to give some of their fringe players a run, but that did little to halt their momentum as they continued to take the game to UJ.
The first powerplay was called five minutes into the third period with Kovsies leading 38-21, and they managed to stretch that advantage to 42-21.
They reached the half-century to secure a bonus point just before the final break, leaving UJ with it all to do in the final quarter.
The second powerplay was called with just six minutes left on the clock, and by that stage Kovsies were out of sight as they sealed a dominant performance.
