UCT will be looking to end Varsity Netball on a high when they travel to the UJ campus for their last two games in Round Six and Seven.
The Cape team are yet to bring in a win in the tournament, and will be looking to finish this year’s performance in style.
On Sunday, they will take on last-ranked VUT, who have also been able to garner a win so far. The team are fresh off a 26-76 loss against NWU-Pukke last week, and are sure to be looking for some redemption.
On Monday, UCT will come up against current top-ranked team UP-Tuks who have won all five of the games they have played so far. This, will undoubtedly be a fiercer contest for the Cape Town-side.
UCT Netball captain Fortuna Bagula said that her side will give it everything in Johannesburg.
“We are quite excited about both games occurring this coming weekend and are preparing to hopefully bring back a win,” she said.
As a consequence of the previous losses, the ladies have been forced to make changes to the squad.
“We have made changes in the team that should help, so that’s why I’m feeling more positive,
“Another way we have adjusted our preparation is to try and incorporate these changes in our play,” Bagula explained.
UCT Goal Keeper Simone Peters also spoke about the change in preparation this week.
“Our coach is working on our weak points from previous games and really just motivating us to keep our heads up high and go and fight. It really is both a physical as well as mental game,” she said.
In terms of which game they are most looking forward to, Peters said that they are targeting VUT.
“Definitely the VUT game. It’s a game that we can really win. Tuks is going to be our biggest challenge as they are the strongest team at present,” she added.
The two matches against VUT and Tuks are the last two UCT will play in the tournament, so they will be hoping to bow out on a high.
