Ikey Warriors’ Cameroonian striker Louis-Roman Moussi Sopp was the only UCT player to find the net this week, as he managed to score for the side in the dying minutes of their match against NMMU.
While they ended up losing the game 2-1 Moussi Sopp’s goal was at the forefront of an attempt from the team to get themselves back into the game, and the competition.
The young striker, a third year BCom (Economics and Finance) student, earned himself celebration from the Warriors’ coach Rowan Hendricks after the game, who made mention of his impressive performance.
The third-round Madibaz game took place in Port Elizabeth, far from home for the Warriors.
“The atmosphere was different – kind of uncomfortable as we didn’t have our fans around to cheer us on,” Moussi Sopp said.
“But again I felt it was important we win for them,” he went on. “We gave our best to get the win, but we unfortunately again were not rewarded and the referee didn’t make it easy for us either.”
Speaking about his experience in the tournament so far, Moussi Sopp was extremely complimentary.
“It’s a really great experience. I have great teammates and a great coaching staff. We are family and I enjoy all the time I spend with all of them.”
Citing what he believes to be the best characteristic of his team, he said “An incredible team spirit, dedication and commitment. We really sacrifice a lot to do what we do and face many challenges, but will never give up.
And regardless of their results so far, the striker assures that he is confident for the future because of the quality of the squad and their constant belief in their ability to win.
