UCT will be looking to bounce back next week after coming second best to their Cape rivals Maties when they lost out 13-71 in the fifth round of Varsity Netball.
Maties were dominant from the start, and took control of the game early on. Trailing 6-36 at half-time, the Cape Town side were unable to have any real say in the game.
UCT captain Fortuna Bagula spoke about the game with a sense of disappointment and sadness, and explained that the loss of Goal Attack Fikile Dlamini was particularly tough to handle.
“We’ve unfortunately lost one of our key players as she has fallen ill and I guess that played a great role in our game last night,” she said.
“I can’t point out what it was exactly that went wrong but I can say that last nights game was not played to the best of our abilities,” Bagula added.
Despite the team’s plan to bounce back going into the match, they were unable to execute, and consequently fell short.
“I don’t think there were improvements in last night’s game otherwise we would have played better if there were,” said Bagula.
The team have an entire week to regroup before they travel to Johannesburg to take on VUT in Round Six.
