There was no separating Cape rivals UWC and UCT in Bellville as the teams played out a 1-1 draw.
The stalemate sees UCT finish their Varsity Football campaign at the bottom of the standings with just two points to show for their efforts, whilst UWC end the season in sixth place.
The match kicked off in sunny but windy conditions and it was the home side who made a breezy start to the game, forcing UCT onto the back foot from the word go.
The visitors managed to make a few forays into UWC territory and created a few chances, but they were unable to sustain any pressure as the hosts dominated possession.
UCT had a great chance to open the scoring when a well-timed ball put Mwansa Chalwe clear of the defence, but he could not test UWC goalkeeper Basikelele Mdletye who dealt with the shot easily.
Both sides struggled to keep hold of the ball long enough to build any real pressure, with possession changing hands often in a somewhat scrappy affair.
UCT defender Anees Cozyn was shown the first yellow card of the match for a dangerous tackle on Curtley Beukes, but UWC could not take advantage and the teams went into the half-time break deadlocked at 0-0.
UCT made a promising start to the second half, with captain Mcebisi Mtshali proving a serious threat down the right wing.
His weaving run resulted in a corner which the UWC defence failed to deal with and Velaphi Vilakazi was on hand to open the scoring for the visitors.
That prompted a response from UWC who threw everything into attack as the game sparked to life, and it was not long before they found the equaliser.
Beukes was brought down on the edge of the box and replacement Tapelo Sixishe stepped up to curl the free kick into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1.
Both teams searched desperately for a winning goal in the frantic final stages, but it was not to be as the match ended in a deadlock.
