With only TUT assured of a semi-final berth, teams positioned second through sixth go into the final round with minimal margin for error. The Central University of Technology (CUT) travel to a resurgent University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) knowing a victory for either side could reshuffle the top four.
Besides the natural fight for a place in the semi-finals, teams will be well aware of the importance of grabbing second spot on the log in order to secure a home semi-final. As insurmountable table-toppers, TUT go into the last round comfortable that, despite their result, they will play their semi-final in the capital city. UWC and UJ have a clear shot in what is billed as a winner-takes-all affair.
CUT’s modest goal difference essentially means they will have one eye on the TUT Stadium as the favourites take on a mercurial NWU, who could snatch the home semi-final spot should they upset the defending champions. Being well aware of the prize at stake, CUT will have to be sure not to rest on their laurels as only a win will guarantee them a home semi without having to rely on results elsewhere.
The Tuks Stadium will play host as CUT hope to seal a semi-final berth in Bloemfontein, while UP-Tuks look to sneak into the knockout phase of the 2017 Varsity Football season. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:30.
