Conditions were perfect for long distance running in Stellenbosch on Monday night, and the male athletes certainly took advantage.
The men’s Mile was as competitive as expected, with TUT’s Stephen Mokoka securing first place with a very strong finish. The start of the race saw Amos Nyongu from NMMU out in front, but Mokoka soon took over.
Pukke’s Jerry Motsau hit the front at the bell for the last lap, but he had no answer for Mokoka’s kick with the TUT flyer pulling away in the final stretch to finish in just over four minutes.
In the 3000m Elroy Gelant from Pukke set the early pace followed by Kovsies’ Dumisane Hlaselo and Gladwin Mzazi from TUT, but they could not stay with Gelant who pulled away and left the rest of the field to record an impressive time.
