UWC claimed their second big scalp of the day in Camps Bay when they beat NWU-Pukke 22-12 thanks to a late powerplay try.
The team from Belville handed UP-Tuks their first defeat of the tournament on Saturday morning and followed that up with another big performance to move into fourth position on the log after six rounds of action.
It was a tight match throughout and Pukke took a narrow 12-5 lead into the half-time break thanks to another try from the prolific Rhyno Smith.
However, UWC fought back in the second half and drew level when Freddie Muller crossed the line before a powerplay try in the dying seconds saw them take victory.
Tuks moved back to the top of the standings thanks to a resounding 58-0 victory over TUT in their Pretoria derby which saw them score eight tries.
Defending champions Maties continued their winning ways with a nail-biting victory over UJ which was also only clinched by a powerplay try right on the final whistle, but the lack of a bonus point saw them drop to second position on the standings.
The Johannesburg side took control of the game in the first half thanks to a double from speedster Leon Potgieter, and they looked to have the match wrapped up before a dramatic late try by Kyle Leibrandt saw Maties sneak past them at the death.
Whilst UWC and Maties were on the winning side once again, their Cape rivals UCT suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Kovsies who ran away with it in the second half.
The Ikeys hit the lead in the first half as they scored two early tries, but Kovsies responded with three of their own to lead 19-10 at half-time.
The second half was one-way traffic as UCT slumped to a disappointing 48-15 defeat which leaves them lying in seventh position on the log.
The NMMU Madibaz notched their second consecutive victory when they saw off Limpopo 57-19, but the northern side will take heart from scoring their first points of the tournament.
The Madibaz were in firm control of the match, and ended up scoring nine tries in the end, but Limpopo were also able to have their say with Takunda Mujaho and Katlego Phasma both touching down in the second half.
