The 2014 Varsity Football competition will see some explosive curtain-raisers with the launch of a unique seven-a-side football challenge before each match.
Students of the home team are encouraged to form squads of ten players to enter into a mini tournament before each match with R1000 up for grabs for the winning team.
There will be four teams participating in a total of three matches before each Varsity Football game, with each match consisting of two seven-minute halves.
The rules of the competition are simple, matches will be played on a full field with seven players on each side and three players on the bench.
All FIFA rules will apply except for the offside rule, which should make for some breathtaking action with plenty of space available to exploit.
The teams will play two ‘semifinals’ before the final match between the two winners to decide which team is awarded the R1000 at half-time of the home Varsity Football match.
So make sure you get down to Varsity Football matches nice and early this season so that you do not miss any of the action in what is sure to be an explosive seven-a-side competition.
