Which Western Cape University Choir will go through to the semi-finals? We find out on Thursday night, 28 July, as the three judges, joined by guest judge Arno Carstens, make their final decision.
This week the choirs of Stellenbosch University (Maties), University of the Western Cape (UWC) and University of Cape Town (UCT), all have a final chance to wow the judges and book their place in the semi-final of Varsity Sing. Each university will be performing two pieces from the three categories – Own Choice, South African Composition, and Original Composition – and judges Loyiso Bala, Christo Burger, Marvin Kernelle and guest judge, Arno Carstens, will have the tough task of eliminating one of these talented choirs.
In last week’s episode, Maties treated the audience and TV viewers to their classical rendition of the modern Afrikaans hit, Toe Vind Ek Jou by Karen Zoid and Francois van Coke. Not to be outdone, UWC performed a vibrant African Medley, while the young choir from UCT performed Alessandro Scarlatti’s Exultate Deo in perfect harmony.
“The elimination of one choir makes this episode not only a very important one, but also guarantees the public of an entertaining display of sheer talent and creativity,” said Jean Willers of Varsity Sports.
