The NWU-Pukke will face the challenge of defending their crown as Varsity Netball champions in the fourth season of Varsity Netball.
Although the pressure will be on the Pukke team, they are looking forward to this challenge with excitement and they are also ready to step up and make their mark in this year’s competition.
“We are very excited and looking forward to the challenge of defending our title. We have numerous young players in the squad and they are also looking to step up and make their mark in this competition,” said Julene Meyer, one of the coaches from the NWU-Pukke side.
The captain of the NWU-Pukke, Chante Bester, said that it was one of their aims during training to function and play as a team.
“Especially with our six upcoming young players, the focus during training was to function and play as a team and not as individual players,” said Bester.
According to Meyer the team see this tournament as an opportunity to build on the previous year’s success.
“We will take the good from last year, combine it with the areas we felt we could improve on and come with a new onslaught to take our team to new heights,” said Meyer.
According to Meyer they have identified the areas in which they want to improve and they worked hard these past few months leading up to the tournament.
“Our biggest assets will be our depth, our versatility, the hunger to win and the humility of these players as well as our ability to cope and execute our strategies,” said Meyer.
“Varsity Sports tournaments are the most enjoyable and we worked very hard during the year in preparation for this tournament,” said Bester.
The NWU-Pukke will approach this year’s tournament as one of new beginnings which will be very tough taking into account that this team won’t have any home games.
But where they lack home ground advantage, NWU-Pukke possess depth, versatility, hunger and humility.
