UJ captain Grant Bruchhausen said he had no specific expectations for the team in this year’s Varsity Football competition and that he knows every match is going to be a challenge.
“It’s a big achievement for us and we are really happy to be part of such an event. We will take it game for game and hope for the best. We hope we can entertain fans with our football style,” he said.
As the newcomers in the tournament, UJ travelled to the Cape to play UWC and took their first game of the tournament by storm. The team sparked after UWC took a 1-0 lead after the first half and impressed as they fought hard to come back with a 2-2 draw at the final whistle.
The current first year B.Com Accounting student hopes to one day become a professional football player and play in the PSL. He stated that it’s a great privilege to be the captain of such a spirited team.
“Being part of the Varsity Football tournament means the world to us (UJ Football) and we plan to give everyone quite of a show,” he added.
Bruchhausen added that the team wants to compete and play a good brand of football that everyone can enjoy and, with that, they can hopefully get some good results.
“We promise to give our utter best in each and every game, we hope we can have everyone from the university to come support us at our home games as it will help us and give us a lot of motivation to give our best.” he stated.
The vibe between the students will ultimately unwrap when the orange team play on home soil on Monday 28 July at the A.W Muller Stadium in the City of Gold, Johannesburg.
