Kovsies’ Proteas link Jaco Fourie says that there will be no easy games in the opening leg of the Varsity Hockey tournament at Wits this weekend.
Kovsies have yet to lose in their local league this season, but Fourie warned that they can take nothing for granted ahead of what he expects to be a highly competitive tournament this weekend.
“I am expecting it to be very competitive where any team can beat any other on the day. So it is going to be down to who wants it more and which team is more motviated and keen to play,” he said.
Fourie said that preparations in Bloemfontein have gone well and the team is looking forward to being able to showcase their skills on television.
“It has been a good week, we did some team-building exercises and the guys are really keen to play. It is a great opportunity to play on television and the guys are really excited about that as well,” he said.
Kovsies have got a good blend of youth and experience, and Fourie is hopeful that they will be able to challenge the top sides like UJ and Maties.
“There are a few guys that have been here quite a while and built a nice culture, and then the younger guys bring good energy so I think we have got a good mixture,” he said.
