In the opening match of Day Three on Wednesday morning, the only two teams yet to win a match squared off as CUT comfortably saw off UCT to win by 27 runs at Senwes Park.
Having won the toss, UCT sent CUT’s Iviwe Gwana and Hanco Olivier in to bat and the opening pair lay a solid foundation. Going at a healthy rate of seven runs per over, the two put on a 50-run partnership before Gwana was caught for 33 by Yelani Bonga off the bowling of Siyabulela Ntuntwana, driving the ball through the off side.
Hanco Olivier played his part in getting CUT past the 100-run mark, reaching an unbeaten 62 off 52 balls. Calvin Flanegan added 34 runs and left it up to UCT to beat the 156-run target they set in their innings.
UCT’s batting woes continued, with Khwezi Luthuli scoring 31 runs and Brandon Tattam scoring 20 as UCT battled their way to 100 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. It all ended in the final over when Siyabulela Ntuntwana was caught by Delano Williams, handing the Bloemfontein side a 27-run victory. Hannes Venter took four wickets for CUT, with Hanco Olivier bagging three.
