Having equalled last season’s exploits, the Central University of Technology (CUT) will not leave it to the penalty shootout to advance to the 2017 Varsity Football final.
After bowing out at this stage of the tournament this time last year, CUT captain Morena Lehloa will be hoping his charges can get the job done inside the regulation time.
“Penalties are a lottery, so we want to win in 90 minutes.” Lehloa went on to recall enjoyment as a key factor in the fixture. “TUT [Tshwane University of Technology] are unbeaten since last season, but we are confident that if we enjoy ourselves, everything will happen.”
TUT go into this fixture on the back of an impressive unbeaten run which includes dispatching CUT in Bloemfontein in Round Four. Naturally, the defending champions will be the more confident of the sides, having finished the round-robin phase in top spot. CUT, however, will not be pushovers.
“The tournament is only starting now and we will go all out as there can only be one winner,” Lehloa said.
South Africa’s capital city will host both semi-finals as University of Pretoria host the University of the Western Cape in the other contest. The TUT Stadium will be the setting for this enthralling encounter as CUT look to upset the football gods and reach the 2017 Varsity Football final. The match will be televised live on SuperSport 10; kick-off is at 18:15.
