Tuks and Pukke showed the way in the relay events at the first Varsity Athletics meeting in Stellenbosch on Monday to underline their dominance on the night.
The mixed relays brought the evening to a breathtaking end at the Coetzenberg Stadium, and in the end it was fitting that Tuks and Pukke should take the spoils as they finished the evening at the top of the overall standings.
Tuks took the first Varsity Athletics title with a haul of 135 points, to beat Pukke who ended with 126 points of their own on the night.
Kovsies were the only other university to end with more than 100 points, with their 104 securing them third place ahead of UJ and Maties.
In the 4x100m relay Pukke’s decision to start with their two women backfired on them slightly as Tuks built up a healthy lead, and although the Potchefstroom side finished strong, they could not overhaul Tuks.
Things were different however in the medley relay which saw Pukke get revenge by pipping Tuks by over a second, but it was not enough for them to get the overall victory and Tuks walked away with the first Varsity Athletics title.
