Tuks all-rounder Corbin Bosch playing in his father’s footsteps
The father-son cricket lineages of Peter and Shaun Pollock, Chris and Stuart Broad and of course, Rohan and Sunil Gavaskar are a few examples of the empirical evidence that cricket is in fact passed down through the genes. Another great example of this is the young Tuks player Corbin Bosch, who is making his presence felt at the Varsity Cricket.
The young fast bowler has been on fire and added some sting to the Tuks attack. Against CUT, the Durban-born pace merchant achieved 2/17 in his three overs and claimed the FNB Best Batsman award.
Day Two of Varsity Cricket was no different, with the men from Pretoria taking on Nelson Mandela University. The Madibaz looked as though they could edge out a victory against last year’s runners up.
The young Bosch took two for nine, which buoyed the rest of the attack, who tore through the Madibaz line-up and left the boys from the bay in Dire Straits at 7/5 which they could never truly recover from and fell 36 runs short.
Bosch has represented South Africa at under-19 level, and also donned the baby blue for the Titans. The cricketing prowess within the young Bosch is clear, and so is the source of his skill. His father Tertius Bosch was one of the fastest bowlers to come out of the Northern Transvaal – his pace was compared to the great Allan Donald.
With 18 Tests and 83 One Day Internationals under the belt, Fanie de Villiers described Bosch as a scary man for batsmen to face.
“He was a fantastic human being. He demonstrated that you didn’t need to be bombastic to be the best (fast bowler around),” De Villiers explained on the on the Titans website. “He was terrifying and at times batsmen did not want to get in line (because it could be life-threatening),” he added.
Tertius Bosch passed away on 14th February 2000, a month before his 34th birthday. With Tuks looking set to claim a semi-final berth and Corbin going from strength to strength, the youthful talent looks ready to perpetuate his father’s legacy.
