Blitzbokke star Werner Kok will be at the Varsity Netball Final in Stellenbosch on Saturday, supporting the home side Maties.
The Sevens speedster has been a regular in the crowd at Maties home games this season, alongside his girlfriend Zannica du Preez – who is a big Maties netball fan.
Kok is based in Stellenbosch with the national Sevens side and says that he has really enjoyed getting out and supporting the netball side.
“The main thing is that I just want to support them because they are always there for us.
“The Maties guys and girls train at the same facility as us, they are always supporting us. Not just Maties but everyone in the country.
“My girlfriend is big into netball and things like that, she loves watching it and knows some of the players in the national team, so I have met some of the national players.
“She just loves watching it, and for me just to go with her and enjoy the vibe is just awesome. We have to actually support the other teams that are supporting us,” he told varsitysportssa.com.
Kok was full of praise for the Varsity Sports concept, which is unearthing talent in a variety of sporting codes, and pointed to the Sevens players that have come from Varsity Sevens into the national side as evidence.
“I just enjoy the sport, Varsity Sports is amazing, there are a lot of guys and girls who have come through the ranks and made it.
“A few years ago there were about three or four guys in our national Sevens side that went to play overseas, so it is a great platform,” he said.
The Blitzbokke star added that he will definitely be part of the crowd on Monday night when Maties take on NWU-Pukke for the title, and confirmed that he will be fully behind the home side.
“I am definitely going to be there, I am always Maties. I have never studied there, but because we are in Stellenbosch we always support Maties,” he said.
