UWC will be going for the kill when they take on Varsity Football strugglers UL in Cape Town on Monday night.
The Cape students are in high spirits after bagging their first victory of the tournament against last year’s finalists NMMU-Madibaz.
Coach, Boebie Williams, says they will go into the match confident after his men also overcame Northlink College in a mid-week USSA clash.
UWC are now in fifth place while their opponents are languishing at the bottom of the table with one point after four games played.
Williams has set his sights on a place in the semi-finals as they find themselves just three points off the top four teams.
However, UL coach Burney Mampshika will be looking to surprise the Cape team with his men hungry for a win.
“They will underestimate us and we plan to shock them with a win,” he said.
Mampshika’s only worry is that influential captain Pholoshi Bapela is out suspended. The key player was handed his third yellow card of the competition earlier this week.
UL have brought in Kgotlelo Kgoete to replace Bapela and Edgar Mafunisa has been handed the captain’s armband.
For UCT, Thulani Mkosi, Curtley Beukes and Akhona Bonga all picked up knocks in mid-week. They will be assessed before the game on Monday.
Midfielder Keanan Davids makes a return from injury and Williams hopes the talented player’s inclusion will provide them with the impetus to win.
