“Anything is possible for those who believe.” (Khanyisa Chawane – Varsity Netball 2015-2019, Kovsies | National Team debut 2018)
Drawing four-time champions Kovsies for your first game of the 2022 Varsity Netball competition (17 September), is a tough ask. But UWC coach Danlee Mathews says she is full of confidence that her team will step up and perform well.

“We would just like to play clinical, consistent netball and to do this, the basics need to be in place. In this regard, the preparations have been going well. The players are well equipped having played matches for the whole season in other squads. I’m quite chuffed with the youngsters coming through.”
Mathews is clear on what she expects from her team in the coming weeks.

“For the Varsity Cup, we would like to increase our position. We finished last in 2021, but it was a different ball game altogether. This year, the players have trained together and played together for a few months, so we would like to see if we can improve one or two positions on the log.”
