UCT are looking to bounce back from a weekend of early losses when they take on TUT at home on Monday.
Over the weekend, UCT suffered successive defeats at the hands of Maties, UJ and NMMU respectively. While this is no doubt to their disadvantage, the TUT netball team are in a similar position having lost to UP Tuks, NWU Pukke and UFS Kovsies over the same period.
UCT are in a marginally better position to claim the win on Monday, given that they have conceded only 192 points to TUT’s 241 in the previous three games. Similarly, in terms of points scored, UCT are at a slight advantage having scored 68 in total, in comparison to TUT’s 53. However, on the day, all this is erased, and all that is left is the present moment.
UCT coach Stephanie Duursema is looking forward to the game, and considers it an opportunity for the side to rebuild their confidence, and take on a stronger attacking style of play. When asked about how the team are feeling about the upcoming game, she replied: “Very excited! A home game has to be a win!”
The fact that UCT will be playing at home for the first time in the tournament is undeniably to their advantage. The team will be looking to draw on the support of a home crowd.
“The team has had great support on all social media levels, bringing that edge of excitement only a home support can bring,” Duuresema said.
She hopes to see a packed Sports Centre on Monday, as the players will be able to draw upon that positive energy.
