Considering the new national coaches Dorette Badenhorst and Dumisani Chauke are Varsity Netball alumni themselves it should be no surprise they have relied on what they know.
The duo’s first assignment since taking over is the 2019 Africa Netball Cup, which will be staged at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town from the 18- 22 October 2019, and they have named 11 Varsity Netball graduates in their 12-strong squad.

Notable inclusions from the most recent Varsity Netball tournament are Kovsies captain Lefébre Rademan, who claimed the Varsity Netball Player and Players’ Player of the Tournament for 2019, NWU captain Monique Reyneke and Khanyisa Chawane of Kovsies.
As significantly, Bongiwe Msomi – who coached UJ in the just concluded campaign – retains her on-court position as national captain.
The only squad member with no Varsity Netball affiliation is Precious Mthembu, who was already over the age limit of 25 when the tournament launched in 2013.
