Maties got the better of their neighbours UWC when they beat them by 62 runs at the NWU Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday afternoon.
It was Maties who won the toss and
elected to bat first, sending in captain Fritz de Beer and Vezokuhle Mntungwa,
although neither were able to get Maties too far ahead. Daniel da Costa was the
leading scorer for Maties, scoring a run-a-ball 40 with Benjamin Ward scoring
an impressive 32 runs off 20 balls.
Kyle Pluke grabbed three wickets for UWC, but his team had to chase down 150
runs in the second innings, which was a tough ask for a batting side that had
struggled in their previous match.
A deflated UWC, who suffered a 31-run defeat to Tuks earlier in the day, were unable to make any ground against a strong Maties side. Karl Vermeulen was UWC’s best batsman after scoring 28 runs off 29 balls, but unfortunately, UWC were bowled out on 87 runs, losing by a mammoth 62 runs. Luke Holland, Louis du Preez, Benjamin Ward and Brandon Brodell all took two wickets apiece.
