Kovsies centre Ane Botha took both of the individual Varsity Netball awards after the final in Potchefstroom.
The livewire centre was incredibly consistent throughout the competition, keeping her team in the hunt with her massive work rate in the middle of the court.
Botha walked away with both the Samsung Player of the Series and the The Wimpy Players Player award, which means that she was recognised by her fellow players, coaches and the fans.
The Samsung Player of the Series was decided via online voting after the finalists had been nominated by the Varsity Netball coaches. Botha narrowly edged finals home crowd favourite Elsunet du Plessis of NWU Pukke and NMMU star and new Protea player Dumisani Chauke.
The Wimpy Players Player of the Series was elected by the Varsity Netball teams who each put forward three nominations – here Botha ended up with more votes than UP Tuks Yolande du Preez and Juline Rossouw from Maties.
The awards capped a great evening for Botha who played a key role in her team’s surprise 44-40 victory over Pukke as the Free State side took the inaugural Varsity Netball title.
Botha won a state of the art Samsung phone and a Wimpy Summer Starter Kit for her awards.
