UFS-Kovsies booked their place in the Varsity Netball Final with a 61-49 victory over the NMMU Madibaz in Stellenbosch.
Although they had gone down to the same opponents on Sunday, Kovsies turned things around in style on Monday to end their run in the competition.
Kovsies made an energetic start to the game, moving the ball around at pace and building up an early advantage to catch NMMU on the back foot.
Before the Madibaz knew what had hit them, Kovsies had raced out to a eight-goal lead, which left the Eastern Cape side with plenty of work to do to get back into the match.
The Free State side showed far more urgency on defence and turned their turnovers into goals to take a 16-8 lead into the first break.
NMMU started the second half with purpose as they looked to work their way back into the game by raising the intensity.
Although Kovsies battled a bit with their accuracy in front of goal, they managed to maintain the gap and led 30-18 at half-time.
It was a long road back for NMMU, but they pushed hard as they looked to keep their tournament hopes alive.
The Bloemfontein team led 45-32 at the last break, and despite a strong finish from NMMU they went on to secure victory in the end to book their place in the final next week.
