On Monday UCT will take on UP-Tuks in their second home game of the Varsity Netball tournament. The home-side are yet to win a game so far in the tournament and will be hoping that the home crowd, and the support they provide, will be to their advantage.
Tuks are coming off two massive victories firstly against familiar rivals UJ where they clocked in a score of 61-50, and against the previously unbeaten NMMU where they narrowly won 45-44.
Despite the wins, the side have had a schizophrenic journey of sorts throughout the tournament. With loses to UFS Kovsies and NWU-Pukke, UCT will be looking to capitalise on their apparent lack of consistency.
While UCT have had an unsuccessful tournament thus far in terms of overall wins, their last home game was a thrilling clash against TUT which the visitors only ran away with in the final ten minutes of the match, eventually winning 43-35.
The game drew an enormous crowd and the players spoke about how the support drove them to massively improve their performances.
The side will be looking to carry forward this home-game momentum, and if they cannot claim a win, hope to at least improve their game in every possible way.
Speaking about the upcoming game, UCT Goal Attack, Trilby Brown said: “It’s going to be a tough game, but we have the crowd behind us so we must use that to our best advantage.”
The game will be held at the UCT Sports centre, and it kicks-off at 18.00.
