NWU crowd favourite Sylvester Moses has warned UP-Tuks UP not to write off his team’s chances of getting to the Varsity Football final.
The dazzling midfielder was distraught to lose to Tuks for the third time in a row on Monday following consecutive losses at USSA last year. He claims it felt like he was being stabbed in the heart as Tuks broke his team’s hearts yet again.
Revenge will be the driving force behind NWU’s quest to end their hodoo against the students of Pretoria. Tuks has become NWU’s bogey team and according to the midfield maestro, who pulled the strings in a dominant but painful defeat, Tuks will lose in front of their supporters in the semifinals on Monday.
NWU are devastated that they will play an important semifinal game without their intimidating fans.
Moses said: “We are shattered by the turn of events, we attacked and seem to have control of the game only to lose in the dying minutes. Now we have made the job hard for ourselves as we have to travel to Tuks. We only have ourselves to blame, but we will come back stronger as we will rectify our mistakes.”
They are in danger of losing four times to the same opposition, but Moses, one of the candidates for a player of the tournament, insists that will not happen. He says they will play the semifinals as if their lives depend on the game.
“We will win the game we will be prepared we know that they will come into the game with high spirits,” he said.
NWU held a long team talk next to the pitch after the defeat to Tuks in Mafikeng holding hands as they consoled each other. But Moses says they did that to show that they are united as a team.
“No one is to blame we are united but we were exposed against Tuks we have not lost hope of winning the tournament. But it hurts to lose to Tuks more than you can imagine,” he said.
