After playing their first four games away from home, the NMMU Madibaz will play their first Varsity Football home game against Wits on Monday.
The Eastern Cape outfit remain unbeaten with two wins and two draws thus far, which has put them in second place on the standings – just two points behind log-leaders TUT.
The team have built some good momentum and they are not looking forward to finally playing in front of their home fans in Port Elizabeth.
Centre back Kagan Dino Assam said that the team cannot wait to hear the roar of their supporters.
“It is a fantastic feeling to be playing home, especially after playing all four varsity Football matches so far away from home. Our expectation is to win this match, but not just win; we also want to perform to expectation the home crowd.
“Our ambition and objectives are to bring the flair and passion back to the city of Port Elizabeth, allowing all the football lovers to once again enjoy the passion of football. We will go out on that field Monday evening with the intention to please our local supporters and encourage ourselves too,” he added.
Assam said that the last four weeks have filled the team with belief that they can go all the way in the inaugural Varsity Football tournament.
“It has become a priority doing well in the Varsity Football competition and we will do everything in our ability to obtain that victory on Monday evening, which will also put us in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages of this tournament”, he said.
The Madibaz are determined, the home crowd is expectant and behind the team all the way. The match kicks off at 19.00 at the NMMU Stadium South and will not be televised so the supporters are expected to turn out in their numbers.
