After their loss to UWC on Monday, Wits captain Muzimkhulu Nhlengethwa has vowed to turn their striking woes around; with a side that’s completely different to any before.
The captain said as much after a disappointed Wits side left the field, after a short applause of appreciation to its 200 odd home fans who braved the Johannesburg night chill on Monday.
With a bounty of shots on target, free kicks and corners the wits side failed to make the most of their clear cut chances. If the side has any hope of making it through to the semifinals they will need to find a consistent goal scorer and fast.
Wits fans were left screaming their frustration after their home side could only get as close to hitting the cross bar on three occasions. But their shouts were not enough to spur the side on to its first home goal of the season.
On the positive side, the Wits outfit is looking much more dangerous on attack. Set-piece taker Tebogo Digomaje would have got a brace if it wasn’t for the diving saves of the UWC keeper.
Nhlengethwa says the side has been working even harder than before to come up with a new strategy to change their fortunes.
“I am not sure if I can reveal it, but our side is going to look completely different from before. NMMU won’t know what hit them,” says Nhlengethwa
Coach Karabo Mogudi organised a special friendly this week to hone their skills and get some more match fitness in.
The Wits captain has promised fans that they will pull out all the stops to get some goals. They will be travelling to Port Elizabeth to face NMMU for their must-win game. It’s going to be an uphill battle for Wits as NMMU are sitting second on the log.
