Despite being reduced to 10 men, TUT held on for a 1-1 draw with UFS in Tshwane to keep their spot at the top of the Varsity Football standings.
The home side lost their captain Khuliso Rashamuse to a red card in the first half, but still managed to score the first goal through striker Botshelo Mfulwane.
UFS fought back well in the second half and Lehlohonolo Ramolebo grabbed the equaliser in the second half to secure a valuable point away from home for his side.
The Free State side started well and manufactured the first real chance of the match as Themba Zimo got on the end of a good square ball, but TUT goalkeeper King Ndlovu was equal to the task.
The home side slowly worked themselves into the game as Mfulwane set up Sizwe Khumalo for their first real shot on goal and Selby Madibana was unlucky to hit the bar with his effort after beating the goalkeeper.
However, the home side were struck a major blow when skipper Rashamuse was given his marching orders for a dangerous tackle on Lehlohonolo Mokoena.
Despite that setback Mfulwane was on hand to open the scoring after getting a great pass from Doctor Radebe in the 35th minute.
That saw the home side take a 1-0 lead into the half-time break and they continued to put UFS under pressure with Radebe testing UFS goalkeeper Malefane Mokhachane with a stinging shot from outside the box.
The visitors narrowly avoided going 2-0 down when captain Ricco Sutil almost scored an own goal following a solid shot from Madibana, and TUT continued to press as Mfulwane went close with a header.
However, UFS managed to draw level when a poor clearance from the TUT defence saw the ball fall to Ramolebo who made no mistake with the finish.
TUT threw everything into attack as they went in search of their fourth consecutive victory this season and Mokhachane was kept a busy man as the TUT forwards turned up the heat.
The home side almost grabbed a late winner when Mfulwane hit the bar with a header in the 88th minute, but it was not to be and the sides ended up sharing the points.
