The high-flying Tshwane University of Technology are out to prove that their rich vein of Varsity Football form is not a fluke.
They have taken the Varsity football tournament by storm registering three successive victories to top the log with nine points.
They produced giant-killing acts upsetting fancied sides UP-Tuks and NWU, but they are no longer a closed chapter as other teams will be gunning for them.
All eyes will be on them as they play their second successive home game against UFS on Monday. But team manager Archie Mogale says they are not in this competition to make up numbers. Their fairy-tale run continues, but when will it ever end?
Mogale is confident that that it will end with gold medals dangling around their necks. They dare to dream and who can blame them after such an explosive start.
Being at the summit of the log puts more pressure on them but he insists that his side can handle the pressure. The little-known TUT, have won the hearts of the neutrals, but the big question is can they maintain their consistency?
Mogale commented: “We are here to be competitive we have set a standard and now we have to maintain it. It will be too bad to see this hard work go to waste if we don’t win the tournament.
“Nobody remembers under-dogs or runner-up – only winners are remembered at any competition in the world, and TUT want to make this a memorable tournament and become the first team to win the historic Varsity football competition.
“Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself. We believe that we can do this we are in it to win it. They have certainly made a statement and have gone from just being competitors to dark horses.
“While most people are surprised with great run in the tournament we are not. A lot of hard work has been put into this performance. We have assembled a great squad and we work as a team and not rely on individuals,” he added.
