TUT made it three wins from three Varsity Football games with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over NWU in Tshwane on Monday.
The win sees TUT go to the top of the Varsity Football standings as the only team in the competition to have won all of their games after the first three rounds.
With both teams unbeaten before kick-off, it was always going to be a tough encounter and so it proved in the early stages as the sides felt each other out.
TUT got the first real chance of the match in the 16th minute but striker Botshelo Mfulwane let down by poor first touch after receiving a good square pass from Kgotso Mohlami.
However they did not have to wait long as a corner soon afterwards saw captain Khuliso Rashamuse drive home the opening goal with a powerful shot.
That prompted a response from NWU who took the game to the home side as they searched for an equaliser.
TUT defender Khomotso Selemela was shown a yellow card after rough tackle on Zakhele Mashiyi after half an hour as the TUT defence were forced to step up.
NWU came within inches of levelling matters when Otlaarongwa Rantese received a great pass from his strike partner Thabo Mnyamane but his shot hit the upright much to the relief of the home crowd.
TUT had a chance to extend their lead late in the first half, but Doctor Radebe shot wide after being put in space by Sizwe Khumalo.
NWU came out firing in the second half as they looked to hit back after an opening 45 minutes that saw them dominate possession without being able to capitalise.
TUT goalkeeper King Ndlovu was tested by a strong shot from Shane April, but the home side held on to their 1-0 lead as the team from Mafikeng became more desperate.
Mnyamane had a chance to level the scores in the 65th minute, but his header went over the bar as TUT hung on to go to the top of the standings.
