After letting their home fans down in their clash with NMMU, UCT are hoping to make amends when they take on Wits next week.
UCT failed to claim any points against a strong NMMU side in a game ending 4-0 to the visitors.
Despite the cold and wet weather, UCT students came out in their droves to experience the university’s first ever competitive football match to be played on The Green Mile.
NMMU made it clear early on that they had come to Cape Town to earn three points. They completely controlled the midfield from kick-off, leaving UCT on the back foot from the start.
In the end NMU striker Cloudius Sagandira had picked up a hat-trick on a sludgy and slippery Green Mile, leaving the home side and their fans deflated.
Speaking at the post-match function UCT captain Mcebisi Mtshali said that the team was overwhelmed by the support they received from the crowd and that the players are sorry that they couldn’t thank the crowd with a home win.
UCT play bottom of the log Wits on a hopefully dry Green Mile on Monday, 5 August. Wits have not been able to pick up any points in the first two matches so UCT will hope to keep it that way next week.
