Tshwane University of Technology advanced to the 2022 Varsity Football semi-finals after defeating UFS Kovsies Football in the final round-robin match at Xerox Shimla Park. The Tshwane-based giants are two matches away from being crowned the 2022 Varsity Football champions after their back-to-back wins against NWU and UFS Kovsies.
Makukhanye Media House and Sports Agency Co-Founder, Bheki Mkhonza stated that the Red Machine has re-established themselves as the powerhouse of Varsity Football and they can start dreaming considering that they booked their place in the semi-finals without any favours or using calculators to major as is and to be.
“I have been watching all their matches from round one to the semi-finals. There were matches where I felt that they were not at their best and there were matches where I felt that they can go on to lift the competition,” said the paralegal graduate from the Tshwane University of Technology.

The sports agent emphasised that Bushy Moloi’s side booked their place in the semi-finals as their experience played a major role in ensuring they win their matches without always playing well.
“I think their experience has led them this far as we all know that TUT is arguably the best team in the history of Varsity Football. For instance, this team could play poor or unattractive football but win you a match with a set-piece in the 80th minute of the game,” said the 27-year-old.
The sports entrepreneur further emphasised that it won’t be a walk in the park for the 2016 and 2018 winners of the competition as all the teams in the semi-finals have the quality to stop the Red Machine from being crowned the champions.
“All these four teams in the semi-finals have the quality and the material to be crowned the 2022 FNB Varsity Football champions and they deserve to be there. I have been watching all these matches as I am an intermediary and I know when I see a brilliant team,” concluded the final-year LLB student.
The Red Machine will have all to play for in the semi-finals of the 2022 Varsity Football edition when they go head-to-head with UFS Kovsies Football on 15 September 2022 at Lucas Moripe Stadium at 17:00. The match will be live broadcast on SuperSport 4.
