Vaal University of Technology (VUT) are targeting three points against the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) after suffering their first defeat last week.
After a win over UKZN and a draw with TUT in their first two rounds, the 2-1 defeat against UFS dampened the mood in the camp somewhat, but they are ready to bounce back according to their enigmatic goalkeeper coach Pakiso Vigo Tjotjo.
“We told the boys to focus as they created a lot of scoring chances and failed to convert, so our focus will be on the coming games as there’s still a lot to play for and we have to grind hard to get the results, the 3 points in our next game against Tuks,” he told Varsity Sports.

‘Vigo’ who represents a popular figure amongst the squad has a deep-rooted connection to the team and the community, having played for VUT as a goalkeeper. He also assists the head coach and assistant coach with their tactical planning.
“I have been coaching a team in my hood called Monaco FC which has produced some of the professional players in the PSL [like] Abia Nale, Bongani Twala, Bonakele Twala, Vincent Khumalo all played there,” he added.
“So I decided to come work with the University team which I played for. This is my fourth season with the technical team.”
Tjotjo also holds the experience of representing one of the biggest teams in the country at youth level having been on the books of Orlando Pirates, while also having represented the USSASA National team and representing the country at the COSSASA Ball Games.
After finishing high school he joined VUT FC, where he completed his studies before eventually joining the institution.
VUT take on UP-Tuks at the Tuks Stadium at 18:30 on Thursday, 11 August.
