A Cloudius Sagandira hat-trick saw NMMU secure a comfortable 4-0 away victory over UCT at the Green Mile.
It was NMMU’s second consecutive Varsity Football victory, following on from their 2-0 win against UWC in Bellville last week.
The Eastern Cape side got the scoring underway when a bad tackle on the slippery surface in the box saw them awarded an early penalty. Leroy van Rensburg beat the goalkeeper from the spot without fuss to give his team a 1-0 lead.
UCT fought back and created some chances of their own by exposing some shaky defending from NMMU, but they could not find the finishing touch and it would be the visitors who scored next.
Sagandira took advantage of some sloppy defensive work from UCT to notch his team’s second goal which made it 2-0 at the half-time break.
Sagandira was on target early in the second half when he took advantage of the UCT defence again to score his second goal which made it 3-0 to NMMU.
The visitors continued to take the game to UCT and it was not long before Sagandira made it a hat-trick to cap a resounding and valuable victory on the road for his team.
