The South African Football Association have confirmed that three university teams will play in its inaugural SAFA Women’s National League.
Starting on the weekend of 24-25 August, five-times Varsity Women’s Football champions TUT, perennial finalists UWC and UJ will compete alongside nine other teams to become the first-ever SAFA Women’s National League champions.
The trio have been the strongest teams in Varsity Women’s Football so it will be intriguing to see how they fare in league rather than tournament action against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic, who have dominated their provincial leagues for many years now.
It will also be interesting to see how battle-hardened TUT, UWC and UJ will be when Varsity Women’s Football 2019 takes place from 19-21 September in Potchefstroom. By that stage, only one clash between the varsity teams will have taken place.
Here is the full schedule of fixtures between the three varsity teams:
TUT vs UJ (Saturday, 14 September 2019)
UJ vs UWC (Saturday, 19 October 2019)
UWC vs TUT (Sunday, 27 October 2019)
UJ vs TUT (Saturday, 11 January 2020)
UWC vs UJ (Saturday, 8 February 2020)
TUT vs UWC (Sunday, 16 February 2020)
The SAFA Women’s National League is set to conclude in March 2020.
