Having previously represented Kovsies (in 2016 and 2017), Rykie Venter is now leading the Orange Army in Varsity Netball.
She continued her studies (Sport Management) at UJ last year.
Just like her netball hero, Karla Pretorius, Venter is also 1.81m tall, also plays as a defender and shares a birth month with Pretorius – March.
Here, Venter reveals some more insights about her:
Most memorable match in the tournament over the years?
When we (Kovsies) played against the Maties in my first year (2016) because it was the first time that I played a full game. (Kovsies lost the encounter 38-54.)
What part of Varsity Netball do you enjoy the most?
The intensity of the netball which is at a higher level than on at school.
What’s your hobby outside of netball?
Spending time with my family on the farm.
What job do you think you’d be good at?
Any job that includes working with people.
Do you have a hidden talent?
Making sounds of animals.
What’s the most impressive thing you know how to do?
Making an impressive milk tart. Even grannies want the recipes.
What are you addicted to?
Adventure that gives you adrenaline rush.
Which current opposition player would you have on your team and why?
Monique Reyneke, captain and goal defence of NWU. We actually played together at school (Transvalia High School in Vanderbijlpark).
What’s your least favourite netball exercise?
Definitely burpees.
With which celebrity/celebrities do you have a photo together?
I rather choose living in the moment, but I have photos with a few netball celebrities like Karla Pretorius.
What day in your life would you like to repeat?
I would like to have my birthday every day.
