The NWU continued on their merry way picking up their third win in succession this afternoon with a superb 128-run win against UCT at the NWU Oval.
The catalysts for the NWU with the willow were Nico Davin (56 off 40) and Eben Botha (70 off 42) who cracked on the pace in the host’s score of 215/4.
The two scored their runs freely and without compromise as they made life difficult for the UCT bowlers. This was also the first time in the 2019 Varsity Cricket tournament that a team went past 200.
NWU continued their momentum with the ball too as Nico Loubser trapped Robert Koenig in front for a second-ball duck. NWU quickly bagged three wickets in quick succession to leave UCT in tatters at 28/4.
Mphokuhle Dube played a hand in hitting some much-needed boundaries when UCT took an early power play.
Just as it looked that a partnership was building, Michael Ross lost his wicket to change the score to 55/5 with Dandala taking a smart caught-and-bowled chance.
It went all downhill when Henro Janse van Rensburg, into the attack as the off-spinner, took 4/16 to bamboozle the UCT batsman.
Janse van Rensburg also took the final wicket in the power play, bowling out CUT for 87 to extend NWU’s winning margin. NWU now look forward to tonight’s clash with CUT at Senwes Park.
